Keeping a clean and tidy comms room and cabinets is vital to having a successful network. Have you ever worked in a messy data cabinet? – patch leads everywhere, too long, too short, no labelling, can’t find switch ports due to sheer amount of patch leads hanging?

Things to do to prevent this from happening:

  • Ensure structured cabling is installed by competent company and that they loom cables, put patch leads at designated areas of cabinet, test and label patch panels
  • Install cable management bars for patch leads in front and for IEC leads in rear of cabinet
  • Use appropriate length patch leads between patch panels and switch
  • Use colour coded patch leads
  • Ensure switch and patch panels are close together
  • Do not overload cabinet and ensure that on initial install consideration of expansion
  • Keep comms room secure to ensure only authorised people can access cabinets

If you have already made some of these mistakes and need them rectifying then we can help!

Below are the services we can provide:

  • Data cabs upgrades – We can install larger cabinets to suite your needs and move existing cabling/hardware over at a time that suits you, ensuring downtime is minimized
  • Repatch tidy – We can ensure that all patch leads are colour coded and measured to length, making tracing and patching much easier .
  • Fault finding – We can test existing patch panels and re label anything that isn’t labelled correctly. Any faults we find on the cabling can be rectified.
  • Relabelling – If your patch panels or switches aren’t labelled efficiently then we can solve that issue. We can test each port and make an entirely new labelling system if required.
  • Removal of redundant cabling – If you have upgraded your structured cabling or are wanting to, then it is essential to remove redundant cabling once your new cables are in use. This will free up room in data cabinets and in containment around the building. Also depending on the age of the cabling it may not be Euroclass Cca s1b.d2.a2. which ensures it adheres to British Standards 6701
  • Cab moves/ comms room moves – If you’ve decided on a new layout for your business and need your comms room moving, we can assist you with that. Any new cabling required can be installed in the comms room location, and we can migrate your existing hardware.
  • Any electrical needs – UPS install/ cabinet power supplies/ lighting. Whether you need a UPS installed to ensure your network survives a power outage, or you need more power for your comms room to ensure there isn’t any extension leads being used we can help.

As a summary, keeping a clean and tidy comms room with neat cabinets ensures the smooth running of a network. In turn, this keeps your business running efficiently and removing the possibility of downtime.
