Bi-directional Charging

Bi-directional charging is something that the UK is fast adopting, and for good reason. Much like if you have a solar panel system with a battery storage device, where you sell surplus energy back to the grid, your car will also be able to do this soon!

With charging ev cars, comes strain on the grid infrastructure. What this type of charging will allow us to do is to use energy already stored in your cars battery, and pump it back into the grid at peak times. This is called vehicle-to-grid (V2G).

In the event of a power cut or peak demands on the grid we can use what is called vehicle-to-home (V2H) to supply power back to your home or buildings using the battery in your EV car (much like a battery storage on a solar panel system)

Obviously, as with everything in this world, there are certain criteria to meet. One is the type of EV car you have and the other is what type of charger you have installed or are looking to be installed. At this point in time, there are only 5 cars that support this!

  • Nissan Leaf
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5
  • MG ZS EV
  • Kia EV6
  • Ford F-150 Lightning
